The Best Moments From Game of Thrones Season 7

Season 7 might not be the longest season of Game of Thrones however they have certainly manged to pack a lot in to the first 6 episodes. Here is our list of our favourite moments of the season so far.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 7

Arya’s Revenge

Season 7 Episode 1

We have been waiting a long time for Arya to start crossing some more names off her list and she hasn’t wasted anytime since her arrival back in Westeros with her bag of faces. At the end of last season we watched her feed Walder his sons in a pie before pulling off her face to reveal her true identity and slitting his throat.

The opening scene really kick started the show as a ‘who-we-know-to-be-dead’ Walder Frey hosted a feast for all the male members of the Frey family. We knew that a certain stark would be behind the gathering and it wasn’t going to end well for the Freys and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Lyanna Mormont shuts down Lord Glover

Season 7 Episode 1

Since our first introduction into Lyanna Mormont in season 6 we have known that despite her age she is a force to be reckoned with and she has not disappointed this season. After Jon Snow’s request that everyone, including girls, aged 10-16 will drill daily to learn to fight isn’t well received by the Lords, Lyanna quickly cuts in with a seriously badass speech.

“I don’t plan on knitting by the fire while men fight for me. I might be smaller, and I might be a girl, but I am every bit a Northerner.”

Lord Glover makes an attempt to interrupt Lyanna, a reference to the all the media attention around this phenomena perhaps from the GoT writers? However the feisty 10 year old refuses to let him stop her and she carries on.

“And I don’t need your permission to defend the North. We’ll begin training every man, woman, boy, and girl on Bear Island.”

Lyanna Mormont is the feminist icon we have been waiting for. All hail, Lyanna Mormont.

Lady Olenna’s death

Season 7 Episode 3

The Queen of Thornes has long been one of our favourite characters with her sharp tongue and no nonsense attitude, she has definitely had some of the shows greatest one liners. While we didn’t want our favourite matriarch to die however she was able to turn her death scene into a victory that we couldn’t help but enjoy it. In the face of her own death, Lady Olenna doesn’t stoop to begging, she simply plays her last card to reveal her part in the murder of Joffery and we couldn’t have had her die in any other way.

Starks Reunited

Season 7 Episode 4

The Starks have been scattered across Westros since season 1 with none of them being sure who was actually alive. The Stark children weren’t exactly the best of friends before they all went their separate ways and while they were initially happy to be reunited in the family home it has’t taken long for bickering to start between the two women of Winterfell. Now we just need Jon Snow to hurry back to Winterfell before Littlefinger manages to succeed in his mission to tear the Stark family apart for his own gain.

The Loot Train Attack

Season 7 Episode 4

High on their the success of taking High Garden the Lannister army is slowly loading up the supplies they have now won before heading back to Kings Landing when a rumbling can be heard in the distance. This scene tension builds as we hear the rumbling get slowly get louder as Jamie yells as the troops to get in line. The rumble of charging horses and the  Dothraki screamers as they charge into battle to get their first taste of Westerosi blood isn’t a comforting sight for any army which is shown on the faces of Bronn and Jamie. However it turns out that the Dothraki are the least of their problems when Daenerys appears riding her one of her infamous Dragons.

The battle is chaos with the charging Dothraki, scrambling Lannister army with carts and men burning everywhere thanks to the dragon fire. The Lannister army put up a good fight and do manage to get an a shot on the dragon however it isn’t enough to kill the beast and it becomes clear that the Lannister’s can’t win this battle.

Is Jon Snow A Targaryen?

Season 7 Episode 5

For a very long time now, Game of Thrones fans have suspected that Rhaegar Targaryen still has a very important role to play in the show as many believe that Jon Snow is the child of  Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar.

Gilly stumbles across the news that Rhaegar had his marriage to Elia Martell annulled, before marrying someone else in Dorne, which is basically the biggest secret in Westerns, and Sam doesn’t pay her any attention. Instead Sam starts talking over Gilly and continues to talk about his own problems and misses the key piece of information that would be quite useful at this time.

Sam, you are going to have to something incredible for us to forgive you for that one.

Battle on the Lake

Season 7 Episode 6

Any battle which involves the army of the dead is tense and this one was certainly unnerving as the men were trapped on the small island. When the ice become frozen over again, the army of the dead were relentless due to the sheer number of them. There were a few risky moments during the fight when it looked like some of our favourite characters might be lost, thankfully Tormund survived. Now we just need Brianne to see how loveable he really is. It also looked as if it might be the end for Jon Snow again but he must have nine lives as once again he was able to escape from the Night King thanks to the help of his Uncle Benjen.

The battle was also a chance for Dany to see the real Jon Snow; she saw how he sacrificed himself for everyone else which bought them closer together. We have all the feels with pair.

White Walker Dragon

Season 7 Episode 6

Watching one of Deanery’s children was heart-breaking to watch, she scarified one of her beloved dragons to save the men who went beyond the wall for her. In the closing scene we see the army of the dead pulling the fallen dragon out of the water as the Night King watches on before he awakes the beast and we see those chilling blue eyes.

Is it wrong that a white walker dragon excites us? We don’t want the white walkers to win but them having a dragon is going to be amazing to watch.
